Maybe it's just because I recently re-read JUST AS LONG AS WE'RE TOGETHER, but Sara Zarr to me is like, modern-day-YA-Judy-Blume good. Her teenagers are complicated people, her family structures are unusual, and her plots are real BUT not too real. And in spite of the trauma layered in this book, there's also a precious little jewel of wish-fulfillment, and a downright rose-colored ending. And it's good. It's good to have that. She sells it to me, and I'm glad to buy.
