Okay. I confess that I read this book because I saw a trailer for the movie, and it has Jennifer Lawrence in it, and I LOVED her in "Winter's Bone," and I wanted to read the book before seeing the movie.

When I actually flipped open the book and saw the size of the font - i.e., that The Hunger Games is clearly catered to teens or young adults - I laughed. The plot was simple (but well-paced) and the writing was, well, young adult writing (easy to read and kind of facile). And yet I enjoyed it all the same.

The Hunger Games is like that epic, bloody Japanese movie "Battle Royale" with some twists. There were more than a few cop-outs in the story, but for the most part, it was just a really fun, easy read. I blew through it in a day and will probably read the rest of the series.
