Normally this wouldn't be something I'd read.

"No magic? No lasers? No action? No thanks" is usually my mantra. I'm a SFF kinda guy.

I'm glad that I did read this, however. Because it was beautiful.

The fictional account of the history of a real book, the Sarajevo Haggadah. It tells the tale of a present day book conservator as she pieces together the mysterious history of this piece of our past. As she uncovers and examines each clue, we uncover a bit of story from that historical period.

While the 'modern' portions were entertaining, the historical snippets are what really shine and engrossed me completely. From the saving of the Haggadah during the wars, to the original penning of the words, these fictionalized historical snippets really bring the story(and history) to life in such a way that it really sticks with you.

Simply put, its Beautiful: this story and the Haggadah itself.

Denae woot

Graham Crawford I adore Brooks - have you read any of her other works? My favourite is "March", though POTB has one of the best structures ever.

Ala This is the only book of hers I've read. I'll check March out soonish, though.

Denae I think it's on my list too. I'll check it out sometime. *bit overwhelmed*

Graham Crawford I re-read "Little Women" the day before I tackled March..and that was certainly worth while. Although March certainly stands on its own, there is much delight to be had comparing these novels as though they were about real people.
