Made it 100 pages, I think that's enough for a fair DNF. Not enough happening, heroine annoying, romance tone-deaf. Review to come.

Sandra I read the one that won the Booker Award.

Kaia Interesting. I kept seeing this one and being curious about it, but every time I read the blurb my brain went "white savior".

Kelly Yuck, I think you may be right about that. There is no actual "white tiger" who has anything to do with the plot--the god/hero is associated with the color black and turns into reptiles--so the "tiger" is probably Emma and is a "white tiger" just because she's white as in Caucasian. :( (ETA: Disclaimer, I have no idea whether an actual white tiger shows up later.) I hear she becomes this badass martial arts warrior later too.

I got it from Paperback Swap a while back and had it lying around, and had read some other Eastern-influenced fiction recently and was interested in trying more, and so finally decided to pick it up. But mostly, so far, it's just about an annoying white girl traveling around a lot.

Karissa I am reading it right now and while I enjoy the Chinese mythology I am finding the writing really awkward to read. Things are repeated over and over, it almost seems like this book is an English translation of some other book....

I wish someone that was an awesome writer had taken this storyline and mythology and cut it down to an action packed 300 page novel.

Kelly Yeah, that exactly. She spends chapter after chapter coming to the same conclusion, rejecting it, and then coming to the same conclusion in the next chapter. And almost nothing happened in the chunk I did get through, and there are all these conversations that have nothing to do with anything.
