Genre: Wordless
Summary: This has been one of my sons favorite books since he was born.It takes you on adventure with a baby boy and his dog Carl. Mothe r leaves Carl and the baby at home while she goes out to run a quick errand. While she is out they journey around the house together having fun in every way. When Mother returns baby and Carl are just as she left them.
Critique:
a. The illustrations are the most outstanding part in this work.
b. The illustrations in this book are wonderful. They truly tell the story and give you an in-depth look at Carl and babies adventures. The way that they are organized also allows you to easily follow the story.
c. In my favorite illustration Carl takes the baby upstairs to the living room and lets him take a swim in the fish tank. Carl leans over the tank watching the baby while he swims with the fish.
Curriculum Connection: This title could be used in a younger class to show and introduce the topic of routines. You could identify this for them or ask them to identify the routine themselves. It could also be used to show how illustrations can play a very strong role in a story, to the point of needing no words. You could also ask the students to write their own story to go along with the illustrations.
