This book was a bit of a chore to get involved in at first. A lot of characters were introduced right at the beginning. The charts of all the major houses in the appendix was integral to keeping people straight. Even still, I got confused from time to time. However, by the end of the book, I was eager for the next one. Martin spent a lot of time setting up the delicate balance of power and political interests only to have it come crashing down. Stuff's about to get real.
