I only saw the movie, and I liked it pretty well. Wasn't shot very well, but I loved all the actresses. The poop gag got a little old by the end. Also, White saviors is not exactly how the Civil Rights movement worked in real life. As I recall from history books, Black people did it themselves for the most part. But this is the author's story of how a white girl like herself manages to help and to align herself with the good people. It's her story of how she wishes she'd been. With all the post-WWII obsession going on in literature and media right now, it's good to see an upending of their basic rules, rather than continual sighing over the severely gendered fashions and the deliciously unequal relationships.
