Young Meggie's father, a bookbinder, has the ability to read characters from books into real life. Having unleashed a group of evil-doers led by a man named Dustfinger, and presumably lost his wife into a book, he will no longer read aloud. However, Dustfinger and his henchmen now have him, Meggie, and Meggie's aunt in their clutches, and all of them plus the author of the book must figure out how to save them all, and defeat Dustfinger and his henchmen for good. A novel concept, and a suspenseful read. Recommended.
