It's good, competent science fiction. Killashandra is an aspiring diva who fails to make the cut to become a lead singer. Rather than be a choral singer, out of the limelight, she storms off in a huff, and gets intrigued by the crystal singer's guild, people who mine the crystals vital for interstellar travel. Unfortunately while she had the skills needed, there are some serious and even horrific drawbacks to that line of work.

The romance aspect to the plot is somewhat unbelievable, but the world is interesting, and the main character is different from the norm-haughty, a bit spoiled, and imperfect. It's soft SF, but good soft SF, compared to her other works.
