I love that this book gives the four perspectives, and I love this time period. But, I thought the execution of this idea could have been done in a more effective manner. The book did not flow well because while the chapters were supposed to be from one girl's perspective, they still were written in third person. The verb tense was also off at points. Both of these traits can confuse the reader at certain points. I believe writing each chapter in a distinct first person perspective would not only give clarity but would also be more engaging. These sisters are great characters, but I do not believe I was invested in them as much as I could have been. Perhaps the first person perspective would have helped that.
Overall, I did really like the book with its intriguing story and characters. I thought the twists with Beatrice were well woven in. I really liked the separation between chapters and the details given as an introduction with each chapter. Personally, I just believe the novel did not quite grab me as much as it potentially could have. I would still recommend it for people who enjoy the the era and strong female protagonist.
