Oh I cannot wait to write about this book. It is so amazingly great. The story is based on a woman named Cornelia Brown who is in her early 30s, living in Philadelphia and working in a coffee shop until she figures out what to do with her life. One day, through the coffee shop doors walks the most gorgeous man she has ever seen. Martin Grace is his name and he is perfect in every way. [return][return]While we are learning about Cornelia, every other chapter is written about an 11 year old girl named Clare. She lives with her mother (father is no longer in the picture) and has a happy life until she begins to realize that her mother is ill. Not physically ill but insane-type of ill. Her mother starts doing crazy things in the middle of the night and making irresponsible decisions. This illness becomes bad enough that Clare is actually frightened of her mother and her mother's actions. The climax of this frightening spiral is that Clare's mother leaves her on the side of the road to fend for herself. [return][return]Meanwhile, Cornelia is feeling like she may be falling in love with Martin. They have a wonderful romance and all seems to be going well until the day that Martin walks into the cafe with Clare. Martin is her father and he is now responsible for this young girl who wants nothing to do with him. Cornelia steps in and as she decides that Martin is not the man for her, she falls deeply in love with Clare. [return][return]Another character named Teo is introduced shortly after Cornelia meets Clare. We learn that he is Cornelia's childhood friend and sister's husband. Cornelia, Clare and Teo make a wonderful trio and they are determined to get Clare through her devastating circumstances. Clare and Teo's relationship is heartwarming.[return][return]The writing is funny, witty, literary and interesting. The storyline is unexpected and addicting. The end is smart and right for the story. I adore this book.
