It takes a while to get a feel for this book, but when it hits, it works. Macabea as an eternally blissfully ignorant pro/antagonist, I think her role in literature is rare, never have I seen anyone fail so gracefully. Makes me contemplate the necessity of the unfortunate to realize one's fortune. How being unfortunate can be a secret blessing. Clarice Lispector is absolutely a talent that deserves more credit.
