Erin I probably read this one forty times....oh...VINEGAR!

Melissa Wendy, I instantly thought of you when I started reading this. So, did you read it before or after you became a nurse?

Wendy This book and Sue Barton, Student Nurse were absolutely the books that made me decide to become a nurse, when I was... maybe ten years old? I read many more nurse books throughout childhood/teenage years, but these were the pivotal ones. (I've had very little appetite for nurse books since becoming a nurse. I read them and literally feel like I'm at work.)

If you can get your hands on it, I think you'd be interested in a book called Mary Ellis, Student Nurse by Hope Newell. It's the only book I know of about a black student nurse (she and another girl are recruited from Harlem to integrate a nursing school in upstate New York). It's very good in nursing, literary, and cultural aspects. Student Nurse is actually the second book--A Cap For Mary Ellis is first, and tells about her getting recruited and actually starting at the school--but I think the second book is even better and stands alone fairly well.
