With all of the hype that the wonderfully captivating movie version created for this book, I was expecting it to blow me away. I was impressed with the characterization especially that of Aibileen, however it was the characterization that left me baffled if not bothered at times. Kathryn Stockett did a decent job at plot line and voice but her authority is questionable in respects to the Civil Rights momentum behind it. I was bothered, for lack of a better word, by the overwhelming cliché’s that riddled the dialect. I do however commend her bravery to take on a subject as leaded as this one may be, fluff or not this book has a cultural backbone and that is commendable and not easy to do. As a writer I can appreciate that aspect, and would hope to take risks in the same way.
