This was a fast paced kick in the teeth to put it mildly. If you've read a paranormal adventure and come away feeling bored I don't think you'll find that anywhere near this book. I bought the graphic audio version of this and listened to it last night while multi tasking it was refreshing in the wee hours of the morning all drowsiness snuffed out. For how short this book was the author was able to squeeze in a lot of back story for the main protagonist. Even the crime was a refreshing twist not just same old, same old. I will be reading a few more books by this author. The book has its flaws but I really enjoyed it. Could have used more development on some of the lesser characters.

Well, kind of...
It could have done without the five second romance with Saul, it felt a little forced. It seems in every paranormal book they have an introduced love at first sight romance. I prefer the subtle intro like in the morganville vampires books. Then there is always past lover returns like in the stormwalker series which just added to the uniqueness of the series. Or even just hate your guts kind of relationship for a time and then love blooms which can be the most realistic.
