Finally. I've finally finished a book that I should have started a long time ago. This book illuminates the case against religion from a perspective and voice that could only be delivered with the cutting wit and insight of Hitchens. His abilities as a writer are showcased in a subject that was close to his heart and mind.

I've read a fair amount of books and works speaking out against the nature of religion and theism on the basis of logic and scientific debunking. I've heard lectures and presentations by those wishing to illuminate the usefulness or uselessness of religion in society, it's worth in history, and it's current role. None of these is as a strong a presentation of facts and implications regarding religion's destructive role historically, presently, and in the future. From his research the histories of violence and complicit behavior by every sect of Christianity in areas such as the support of violence via the Nazi and Stalin regimes, African ethnic cleansing, and the besetting of the charge of deicide on the Jewish community, we get a clear picture of the dangers of America's number one religion. Hitchens of course spares no critique of the bloody past and future of the Muslim faith, as well as the incredible impact of Judaism on themselves and other religions.

The social and intellectual implications of religion are made abundantly clear. A lot of arguments against religion can be gathered from many sources- I agree with much of what the author spoke of, the reason I recommend this book is because in it's entirety it is challenging to believers and nonbelievers alike.

Sky I synced my "to-read" with Facebook. Go like it there and let everyone know you're a godless heathen. Like me, and all the cool kids on the playground.

I really don't know how I let this one get away for so long. I spent today listening to Hitchens liberally deliver verbal backhandings on YouTube, mostly because I was mildly hungover- and Hitchens seems like a guy that can relate. I thought this volume was something that focuses primarily on disproving the existence of God, but it looks to be more of an examination of a social impact. So then I was all "let's do this", and then I started a fire by throwing a Zippo then walked away in slow motion.
