Actually read this because I felt duty-bound to do so as a Mennonite scholar of popular culture - but was surprised at how pleasant and readable it was. Best for its honest and realistic (not glowing and not completely condemnatory) portrayal of Amish life and belief - the best reason for people unfamiliar with Amish or Mennonite customs to read the book. The romance plot is pretty unbelievable and unrealistic, though. Bonus points - one of the main love interests graduated from Goshen College, my alma mater!
