"Coraline" is a whimsical book and great fun to read. I'm pretty sure "sweet" is not in Gaiman's dictionary (or wasn't during the writing of "Coraline"), but I found it a strong, direct, wildly imaginative book--that doesn't sidestep any of the complexities of life and parent-child relationships. My only regret is that there isn't more. It was such a fast read that I blew through it in a little over an hour, in which time I was completely hooked on the premise.
