did not like it
bookshelves: fiction, could-not-finish, do-not-own, worst-books-ever

I didn't finish this book because it feels like it was written by a first time author, in a bad way. Things like "Jane, who was dressed in a yellow shirt with blue jeans and black Keds, with her strawberry blonde hair pulled up in a ponytail, turned to her friend Lucy, who was wearing an orange sweater and long, flowery skirt...." Okay... How about something interesting? The plot was too unbelievable and at times anachronistic. How would people from 1994 know that you can find patent records online? In what kind of economy can you live off of the income generated by a handful of 70 year old coins? The dialogue was forced, and the plot advanced without any conflict, at least until I stopped reading. I found the characters generally uninteresting and uninspired. I can only hope the author keeps trying, and eventually hones the fine art of writing.
