I thought this got off to a bit of a slow start with Sven-Arne, the minor Socialist politician walking out of his job and his life, disappearing to Bangladesh. Why, after he had been gone for 12 years, was it so traumatizing to see an old neighbor from Sweden in a restaurant, why was the neighbor so keen to pursue him when they had not been close and there was no crime involved in his disappearance? Why does this trigger a return to Sweden?

It got better, and the interwoven stories about actual crimes, the discovery of a dismembered foot in a remote village, an old murder case that involves a motive going back to the Spanish Civil War, and the interaction of Ann Lindell and a village policeman were all interesting.
