In 7th grade, I'd have given this a 4 or 5 stars. As an adult, reading the updated version, it's probably more like a 2.5 or 3.
Some edits were forced, or simply plugged in (i.e. swap out "boom box" for "iPod."), while sections that should have been updated, but which would have required much more work (i.e. a character gaining info by listening in to a landline call on another receiver -- that call would not be made via landline these days) were left for us to suspend disbelief.
Overall, the story is probably good for its target audience, but is not near the quality of Suzanne Collins' crossover YA material.
