John Boyd changed the world of air combat everywhere when he proved his theories of energy management in a dogfight. Then he proved them by beating any challenger to his perfect record of conquest.

Boyd literally wrote the book on modern air engagement tactics, which were later taught at the famous Navy "Top Gun" school. Robert Coram chronicles Boyd's colorful and eclectic life as a genius in applied aerodynamics, but also revealed a haunted man, who's single-minded quest for recognition of his unconventional theories, were never fully realized until after his death.

Boyd broke the mold as a true American hero; the John Wayne of military aviation.
