At first I chafed at the subject - freedom summer in Mississippi. So many stellar titles exist on this subject.
Still the characters are engaging, the subject is riveting, and I think this book would read aloud quite well.
Also, there is so much xenophobia swirling around right now- seeing a historical perspective might help cope with the present.
Glory is a motherless preacher's daughter caught up in pool closings, her friend's racist ways, and an older sister who is growing away from Glory. Amid all this Glory stays true to herself forges a path of honesty in the face of adversity. It is not a smooth road in Hanging Moss Mississippi but it is the only road Glory has.
