Ooh, you're thinking of reading the Morland Dynasty?

Steph Yes, I am! I am hooked on Downton Abbey, and part of its appeal is, I think, getting to follow a family through all these scandals and travails... So I checked out your reviews of this series, and I am thinking it might be like DA on a broader chronological scale. Once I'm done with my current read, I'm thinking I'll download the first chapter of this to my Kindle app and see if I like it.

It definitely has as much melodrama as Downton, and as the family branches out, you get a whole range of different people's experiences. If the first doesn't appeal, you might check out the first chapters of a few later books too. The writing improves as the series continues. (The first few books covered too many years.)

Steph Sad news: The Founding isn't available on Kindle, nor does my local library have a copy... so I've had to request it via interlibrary loan. I hope I get the chance to give it a try. I realize that there's no reason why couldn't skip these early books (since later ones will focus on different people entirely), but I do want to start at the start! ;)
