I was moved by the content of this book, but not the execution. The point of view in the first half of the book--third person close--is better suited for fiction. I felt at times like I was reading a third-person memoir, which was off-putting. The second half of the book, which introduces the author to the story, felt heavy-handed. I did think the jumps in time worked well, and I thought Deo was a remarkable character. (And this, of course, is the result of the point of view, because he's not really a character--he's a person.)
