Margaret I've found her a little hit-and-miss, but this is one I've read before (about ten years ago) and remember liking. I just read The Eye of Love and liked it a lot: unusual, yet sympathetic love story, excellent non-sentimental (actually sort of anti-sentimental) small child.

Margaret I just ordered those! I'll be interested to see how Sharp handles Martha as an adult vs. Martha as a child, since it's the unsympatheticness that's so interesting about her. In The Eye of Love, Sharp is constantly pointing out how a more sympathetic, empathetic child would have taken opportunities to get the heroine and hero back together, whereas Martha just does what she does and is totally focused on that.

Margaret Oh, I figured that's why you'd mentioned Martha in Paris. :) Yeah, she's eight or nine in The Eye of Love, living with her aunt and totally obsessed with drawing. I was surprised when I found out Sharp had written more books about her as an adult.
