I so related to Lamott's feelings as a mother and grandmother as she struggles how much to be there, how to let go, and when to keep her mouth shut. I also enjoyed her son Sam's refections on being a father. I am happy to still follow Anne's journey on Facebook. Would give this 3 1/2 star if I could. The only reason I didn't give it 4 stars was because it was repetitive--rehashing and struggling with the same feelings (more so than Operating Instructions.) But then we do that as mothers, grandmothers and human beings.

Thanks for the review! I loved Operating Instructions, and have been looking forward to this one.

Ah, I was curious about the rating. That makes sense. I heard Lamott and her son on NPR the other day. He seems like a really nice guy, and he talked about how he always appreciated Operating Instructions because it was like his "baby book."
