I have literary friends who can't stand Grisham, but I enjoy every book he writes, and this was no exception - although it started a bit slowly, IMO. But overall the pacing was good, and the narrative voice was entertaining. I enjoyed the sports metaphors (for example, a big shot attorney who likes the ladies is eyeing a hot female attorney, about whom the "scouting report" said such-and-such.)I enjoy Grisham's jaded view of the courtroom and the legal profession, and it just cracks me up.

LOL'd a bunch of times, and the ending was so satisfying I read it twice.

I think people perceive Grisham's writing as formulaic, but so what? We love the formula.

Okay, he violates some literary rules (like using adverbs with tags; e.g. "he said sarcastically") but here's a fact: Grisham's writing is simple and clear. You don't have to puzzle over the writer's meaning. Does that make me simple-minded? Who cares? I'm happy! And I very much enjoyed this book.
