First: This is a big book, thorough, and rigorously researched. If you don't like the idea of someone proposing the reasons for something, listing those 10 reasons and meticulously explaining each, move on.

That said, Pinker marshals impressive resources to prove a simple point "things are less violent now, why?". He combs through political records, law enforcement records, philosophical documents, research papers, political speeches, and a lot of other works by scholars towards simply proving this point. His claim is modest, he does not project that things will continue to get less violent.

The analogies are well-done, the gaps in research are pointed out, and the lines of reasoning are tight and clear.
