it was amazing
bookshelves: cooking

This is the cookbook that got me to enjoy cooking. It isn't just a recipe book. Mark Bittman tells you every technique to prepare just about every vegetarian ingredient and dish in a variety of ways. You can focus on a particular dish or a variety of ways to prepare one particular vegetable, grain, fruit, etc. The recipes are very simple with common ingredients, and the food is delicious. I love how he explains the "why" of how the food turns out, what makes it tender, crispy, etc. Something as simple as scrambled eggs when you know the proper technique to keep them tender makes a world of difference in your cooking. I always find myself at the grocery store without a list and no idea what to cook for dinner, but it doesn't matter anymore because with this book I can buy whatever I want and know there'll be a tasty way to prepare it waiting for me in this book. My absolute favorite cookbook.
