liked it
Recommended for: Especially to people who dig re-done fairy tales, or who are into Russian/Ukranian folklore
Read in April, 2008

I liked it, but I didn't really, really like it. It was well-written, and I think I would have liked it more if I had any background in Russian or Ukrainian folklore. But, I don't. I also get frustrated with bad relationships in books, because I get frustrated with bad relationships in life. There were some bad ones in the book, which were part of the story. It's a matter of taste. Reading the reviews, most of the differences in ratings were a matter of taste. I think Card is an excellent writer. I agree that the first part of the book is a bit slow, but it does give important background information about the main character that the story couldn't do without.

It's a neat story. I don't *like* the characters, but they were well-written characters. It's worth reading.
