I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I usually enjoy more of the horror/supernatural dystopians so I was afraid this particular dystopian novel would be a bit too soft for my liking, but I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. It was fast paced enough to grab me right away and the pacing wasn't compromised at all by the time spent on imagery, which is something that happens all too often (you know the authors I'm talking about) with dystopians that would have otherwise been great. The imagery in this novel was relevant and not just page-fillers. Lastly, I appreciated the dialogue between characters. Again, a lot of YA dystopian dialogue sounds like a script an adult *assumes* "the youth these days" is using. Not with this one. These characters, their dialogue and their actions were believable and not corny or uncomfortable at all. All in all, this was a great additon to the genre and I am looking forward to reading Crossed, the second book in the series.
