Read from November 08 to 17, 2011

This is a well-written fantasy with appropriate scope, sweep and epic feel, adhering very closely to the template established by Tolkein and his many successors. Yet it somehow didn't engage me too much. Even though the characters are varied and interesting, it all seems too by-the-numbers, and the deus-ex-machina ending was bit hard to swallow. I doubt I'll read the other two volumes of this trilogy.
