This was the most recommended title in Ian Banks's Culture series. I was intrigued by the structure, and Banks is always good for some far out ideas, but the story ultimately failed to be captivating, or even interesting. I can't really put my finger on exactly what was missing, but I feel the same toward Banks's Consider Phlebas and I suspect that it had something to do with the characters; I just didn't connect to them. They're just a little too politically connected and a little too bad ass to relate to. I realized I was 2/3 of the way through and still not enjoying it, so I abandoned the book.
