A book about spirals might not sound that interesting, but this book is wonderful. Beth Krommes, the illustrator, won the Caldecott for "The House in the Night", and these illustrations have a similar richness and depth, as she illustrates such varied spirals as a swimming nautilus, a fern frond, a snail, an elephant’s truck, ocean waves, and a spiral galaxy. The text is short and simple enough (about one sentence per page) for a nature or science story time.
