bookshelves: giveaways
Read from December 09 to 14, 2011

I received a copy of Behind the Beautiful Forevers through a goodreads giveaway. It is by far the best book that I have read this year. The author of this book, Katherine Boo, spent several years spending time with some of the residents of a slum outside of Mumbai. The result is breathtaking. She chronicles the hopes, dreams and despair of the residents. The book reads like a fiction novel and yet is a true story. It was easy to connect with the people whose stories are told and to hope for some kind of justice to finally come. I am infinitely more grateful for the abundance that I take for granted on a daily basis.
