I hated this book. It meandered on and on about nothing whatsoever. The other John Irving book I read was pretty much the same, about nothing, but that book suceeded in telling a compelling story. Maybe it's because it was so outlandish; I don't know. This book does not succeed. I can't even imagine that they made a movie about this book. It hardly moves, and I found most of the characters so irritating or smug. As amusing as Dr. Larch was in his near-insane machinations, it is not enough to make the book. Do not read this book.
