Dunno what happened here. It just didn't grab me. And it had a little bit of just about everything I seem to be looking for in alternative fiction lately: Zombies (excuse me, "Rotters"), alternate history, the whole "steampunk*" thing, and of course dirigibles§. And I did like the setting, even if a 200 foot tall wall did seem a bit iffy. The problems were a confused and tedious plot, though the actions scenes were decent, peopled by flat and tedious characters who seemed to have picked up most of their dialog from Saturday morning cartoons.
So, can't say I hated it, but can't bring myself to hit that 3rd star button, either. Maybe this one just hit me at a bad moment of higher than average grumpiness. It happens.
* - I absolutely loathe how everything is getting pushed into sub-sub-sub-genres, and here I am, using a term for one of 'em. Shame on me. :(
§ - 200 foot tall walls and not having figured out helium, apparently. Not picking on this book. They ALL seem to do that. Wonder why?
