Gödel's Proof

by Ernest Nagel, James R. Newman, Douglas R. Hofstadter
A short description of Gödel's proof, which inspired Douglas Hofstadter to write Gödel, Escher, Bach. The latter book is genius, a whirlwind of ideas related to Gödel's method. Perhaps it was because of expectations this book couldn't possibly live up to that I didn't find it all too exciting. Still, it's a short and focused explanation of Gödel's theorems, with a few interesting technical side-notes that Gödel, Escher, Bach doesn't touch on, like the axioms of Whitehead and Russell's Principia. It'll stay in my bookshelf (after my friend who borrowed it returns it) for quick reference on Principia and Gödel.
