Oh man! This book. Could not put it down. Partially because it was the classic literature version of a total fucking train wreck. For most of the book every single character is completely detestable and it's just a chronicle of the horrid things we can do to one another but it's written beautifully so you just revel in the horrible. There is a hopeful redeeming note at the end, so I didn't come out of it feeling too bad about how life isn't fair and the world is full of terrible people. This thing was sooooo dark. And sooooo good.

Those Brontës. I am officially madly in love with them.

Maijabeep Also now I really really want to re-read Jasper Fforde's hilarious Wuthering Heights rage counselling session in his Thursday Next series.
