Woodard uses American history explain that the deep-seated political and cultural divisions, so salient in our country at the present, have their roots in pre-Revolutionary times.

A very interesting and informative book, especially as I read it during Spring Break while traveling through the "Yankee," "Midlands," and "Greater Appalachian" regions of the Midwest.

The two regions where I have lived most of my life, the "Far West" and "El Norte" were not covered in much detail, unfortunately, since it would have been great to better understand the distinctiveness of these areas.
