The music business and southern California in all their collective misery--people letting other people down--those are the setting and the theme of this book. I'm not sure why I liked it, but it was funny and the characters seemed real and not completely bad. It was a little hard to figure out how they all related to each other; it calls for a second read to understand the sequence of events because the chapters/stories did a lot of time traveling, and so did the various people telling the stories.
