This book is the start of the Heroes of Olympus series. It takes place in the same world as the Percy Jackson series, where young demigod children of the Greek(and now Roman)gods deal with monsters and prophecies, narrate snarkily, and make pop culture references. For fans of the first series like myself, this book is great because it expands on that world and gives us some new point of view characters. Readers new to the series and mythology can enjoy it, but its better if you understand the references to other characters and mythology. Jason, Piper, and Leo are different than Percy, which takes some getting used to, but once you are, its easy to get caught up in the adventure and action. There's humor, but it seems more grown up than the first series and adds more romance. The cover with the mechanical dragon draws you in and there's plenty more awesomeness within. A good start to a great series.
