Shawn is 14-years-old and has the ability to remember everything he hears. Unfortunately, this audible genius is trapped in a body afflicted with cerebral palsy with no ability to communicate. Shawn believes and probably rightly so that he is the reason his Pulitzer Prize winning father left his family which includes his mother, his sister, and his brother. His father cares for him but is unable to handle the pain and suffering Shawn experiences particularly when he has seizures. What his father doesn’t know and can never know is that Shawn likes his life and even relishes his seizures. Shawn talks of his loving mother, his caring sister, and his protective brother. His father is famous and continues to struggle with Shawn’s condition. Shawn begins to worry about his future because his dad interviewed a man who killed his two-year-old to “stop his suffering”. Shawn’s brother and sister also worry that their dad may have a similar plan in mind. We are ultimately left wondering on the fate of Shawn.
