Shackleton's Stowaway
by Victoria McKernan
I hated this book with a passion. It's like reading somebodys journal that you don't like or want to hear about. My friend said that he wasn't like he couldn't put the book donw but he liked it. I disagree. The story was ok but it was dull. if they limited it to 100 pages then it would of been alittle better. just a little. The way it was written was distusting and the way story was depressing as well. One of the reasons the story sucked was they killed inocent seals and those seals went to the afterlife. killing the dogs was pointless i don't get why you killed some dogs and made sure that they had food for others. I don't like killing animals that to me is messed up.
The saliors were on a ship called the endurance. You may have known that it sunk and everybody lived. But they were not safe and sound. Frostbite overcame toes ears lips. So you get the idea. What you don't hear is how endurance of the crew was amazing. They got it from the ship I guess. Shakleton was from Ireland. He sure was a great fighter like the sayying "The fighting Irish." Shakleton must of felt like he had something to prove because he wanted to make history. He went to the antartic cirlce. That would be the last placce on the earth I would go to make history. His trip was not as successful as he wanted but more famous than he could of amagined.
The term Shaklton stowaway really means a stowaway. Peirce was the stowaway because he really wanted to go on this trick to history. He thought he was pretty sneaky. The sailors brought food to him and took care. Until the captain found out. When he did he got whipped. Peirce later would have his toes amputated by the doctor.
Why didn't he make the trip this time? What happened that ended the journey? Or started it? The endurance was cought in ice for several days. at that time they gave up and Skalkton gave orders to get on the lifeboats and sail to Elephant island. Skalkelton would keep the moral of the men up and make sure no fights would happen. He would make sure every salior had something to eat and drink adn when one man needed it he would get it for all of them without the one man knowing. Skaleton was a great moral leader. He would dress up funny on the holiday and dance for the men for a laugh.
Now the men did love the animals on the ship the cat was loved by all the sailors. But to live they had to kill many animals. The story was a very sad and desperate journey. it was lead and liout out this one man Skakleton the men would have never lived. I Highly do NOT recomened this book to anybody the journal entrys are dull ande i very much dislike them.
