This was a 3.5 for me - wasn't sure whether to round up or down, but I went with down since I gave the first book a 4 and I liked that one much better. It's hard to explain what exactly I didn't like about this installment... It definitely has everything I love - vamps, demons, witches, time travel, bodice-ripping, et al. - but it just didn't wow me. I did love the Elizabethan England setting, and all the real-life characters (Christopher Marlowe, Shakespeare, etc.), but the story was kinda meh and, most importantly I think, Diana's and Matthew's relationship has gone completely haywire. They are crazy and whiny and co-dependent and totally insecure - basically they're acting like 14-year-olds, which is annoying when one of them is, uhhh, thousands of years old. The bodice-ripping also appears to be the work of 14-year-olds. Ah, well.
