L.A. Candy
By: Lauren Conrad
Genre: realistic fiction
Would you like to be on a hit reality T.V. show? Jane Roberts thinks she does. L.A. Candy by Lauren Conrad is about Jane Roberts a girl from a small town who moves to California to be “uncomfortable” with her best friend Scarlet, together they become the stars of a reality T.V. show called L.A. Candy.
Jane Roberts is an intern for a party planning company and her best friend Scarlet goes to college. One night they go out and get an opportunity of a lifetime. To be on a reality T.V. show. When they’re on the show they meet two other girls on the show Gabby and Madison. Scarlet isn’t afraid to speak her mind, while Jane is more polite. Scarlet starts to hate the reality T.V. life almost immediately, while Jane doesn’t know what to think. When things start to get scandalous Jane doesn’t know whom to trust.
This book is never boring! It’s an “easy read” but it’s a fun book and has an ending that makes you want to read the sequel (Sweet Little Lies). The author does a good job with the different characters’ inner thoughts. Jane says that her life has always been “pleasant, predictable. She wasn’t sure when or how, exactly, but that was all about to change.” (pg. 2). This book is all about how her “pleasant, predictable life” is changing.
I would definitely recommend this book to a friend. I would recommend this book to girls who are looking for a fun, short, or dramatic read. Although this book may not be challenging, it’s a really fun read!!!!
