Interesting book, published posthumously. The early section is a traditional presentation, linear, presenting the main characters, two young sisters, a brother, mom and dad, in a fishing village in New Brunswick in 1916. Mom is pregnant and dies during childbirth. As the family deals with her loss, the rifts and alliances in the family are clearly drawn. The succeeding sections are little vignettes about the individual family members, dipping into their lives over the years until the death of the last one remaining, years later. I wonder if Jensen had lived whether she would have kept that device or have fillled in the "blanks" a bit more.

I liked the book a lot, though, and think about the characters from time to time...
