Again a book which hv read courtesy book swaps and a good friend at GR!

About a Boy is the story of Will, a 36 yr old man who is still a boy at heart, who has never had to work courtesy the royalties of a song his father had written, and Marcus, a 12 year old boy who is actually mature beyond his years in many ways, but lacks social skills. Another central character is Marcus' mother Fiona, a single mother who is simply not able to take it any more!

The Novel is about how Will & Marcus meet, and how Marcus in order to make Will date Fiona kind of plants himself in Will's life. The story kind of meanders thru 6 - 8 months of their life, and ends leaving all 3 slightly more mellow, slightly more normal. However, there doesn't seem to be a natural closure of the story.

The writing is mostly superficial, with bits of wit and flashes of humour, but otherwise pretty drab. No where does the novel make u think or kinda identify with whatever is being written about. And that lack of connect is its greatest failing.

This is one of those rare books where the Film version is way better than the written one! Watch the movie, skip the book!
