The Ballad of Tom Dooley (Ballad Series, #9)
by Sharyn McCrumb
by Sharyn McCrumb
I know the song - The Kingston Trio - "Hang down your head", and probably would never have picked up this book, except Sharyn McCrumb is such a good writer, she even wrote a book about Dale Earnhardt that I enjoyed, so I was willing to take a risk.
This is a fictionalized book, based on the research and facts of the case, and it works. Tom Dula was a confederate veteran who was involved with many women and didn't like work much. The psychopath slant of this book caught me by surprise, I don't know why that I think psychopaths are a modern thing, which of course they are not.
The only downfall of reading this book, is that for over a week I've been humming "poor boy you're bound to die".
